Off the Wall

This was a summer group exhibition at A Fine Line Gallery, Matakana.

Artist Statement

Every summer, New Zealanders holiday on the coast and so beaches become the subject matter for much work shown in galleries, because of their 'feel good' factor.

My image making has been aimed in another direction. I am seeking to document the ordinary, not the spectacular; to point my camera at subjects that we rush past but don't pay much attention to, as we make our daily (or annual) journeys.

I don't make images from a purely aesthetic motivation, but primarily from a documentary motivation. In years to come, these locations will have changed and I want to record them as they are now.
